Teflon® Encapsulated O-Ring : How to Specify
Specification of an encapsulated o-ring requires the engineer to call out the following criteria:
1. Geometry; call out of inside diameter and cross section or Aerospace designation AS568
2. Encapsulation material FEP, PFA or HIgh Purity PFA (semicon)
3. Core material or silicone, FKM or EPDM.
Engineers often question what encapsulation material that should be utilized in a specific application. FEP is a good choice where high temperature resistance is not required, core material choice can be silicone or FKM. PFA is utilized where temperatures up to 500°F (260°C) are possible, silicone core is your best choice for these applications.

Comparison Table:
Property | FEP | PFA, HIGH PURITY PFA |
Chemical resistance | Excellent | Excellent |
Temperature resistance | Up to 205°F (96°C) | Up to 500°F (260°C) |
Flexibility | 8 on 10 scale | 6 on 10 scale |
Cost | $$ | $$$ |
