PFAS Policy Statement M-Cor Inc
M-Cor Inc recognizes that our fluoropolymer products – including Teflon FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene), PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy), and fluoroelastomers – fall within the broader classification of PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances). As a responsible manufacturer and supplier, we are committed to transparency regarding these materials and to implementing best practices that protect human health and the environment.
Understanding Fluoropolymers vs. Other PFAS
Fluoropolymers are a distinct class of PFAS with different physical, chemical, environmental, and toxicological properties compared to other PFAS. They are high molecular weight polymers with fluorine attached to their carbon-only backbone. Our fluoropolymer materials possess unique characteristics that make them critical for many applications where alternative materials cannot provide equivalent performance.
While we acknowledge concerns regarding certain PFAS materials, scientific evidence supports that our fluoropolymer products, when properly handled:
- Meet the criteria to be considered “Polymers of Low Concern” (PLC)
- Are thermally, biologically, and chemically stable
- Have negligible solubility in water
- Are non-mobile, non-bioavailable, and non-bioaccumulative
- Are neither water soluble, mobile, nor bioavailable or toxic when properly manufactured and used
Our Product Portfolio
M-Cor Inc’s fluoropolymer product line includes:
- Teflon FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene):
- A melt-processable fluoropolymer ideal for injection molded biomedical devices and thin-walled, complex parts
- Offers excellent chemical resistance, electrical properties, and high continuous use temperatures
- PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy):
- Combines many of the best traits of PTFE and FEP with higher service temperature and greater tensile strength
- Used in semiconductor, chemical, oil and gas, aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical, and medical industries
- Fluoroelastomers:
- Provide critical resistance to heat, chemicals, and environmental exposure
- Essential in applications where their unique properties are unmatched by alternative materials
Our Manufacturing Commitment
M-Cor Inc is committed to:
- Responsible Manufacturing:
- Minimizing emissions from our manufacturing processes
- Working toward eliminating PFAS air and water emissions from our manufacturing processes
- Reducing or eliminating PFAS-based surfactants in our manufacturing processes where alternatives exist
- Product Safety:
- Developing all products in accordance with regulatory requirements and standards in the United States, Europe, China, and Japan
- Processing fluoropolymer resins at temperatures above processing aids’ destruction threshold to further ensure product safety
- End-of-Life Considerations:
- Supporting improved recycling and reuse of fluoropolymers, particularly from industrial applications
- Working toward responsible disposal practices to prevent uncontrolled breakdown of fluoropolymers
Ongoing Commitment
M-Cor Inc remains committed to:
- Continuous Improvement: We will continue to invest in research and development to improve manufacturing processes and minimize environmental impact.
- Regulatory Compliance: We will comply with all applicable regulations related to PFAS and fluoropolymers in all markets where we operate.
- Transparency: We will provide accurate information about our products to customers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Innovation: We will work to develop new materials and processes that maintain high performance while minimizing environmental impact.
We believe that our fluoropolymer products play an essential role in modern technology and infrastructure, enabling critical applications in healthcare, renewable energy, transportation, and electronics. We are committed to manufacturing these materials responsibly while recognizing their importance to society.
This statement will be reviewed annually and updated as new scientific information and regulatory requirements emerge.
