Installing Teflon® Encapsulated O-Rings

1. Surface Preparation
   a. Clean the groove or sealing surface.
   b. Groove must be smooth, devoid of sharp edges, burrs, or deep scratches.
   c. Recommended surface finish: 32 micro-inches or better

2. Heating the O-Ring for Difficult installations
   a. Heat the Teflon® encapsulated o-ring to soften the Teflon® encapsulation surrounding the elastomer core for ease of installation and mitigating the risk of damage.
   b. Immerse encapsulated o-ring  in boiling water, use a heat gun, or a hot air oven.
   c. Heat to temperature range: 150°C – 250°F (65°C – 121°C).

3. Stretching a Teflon® encapsulated o-ring for Difficult  Installations
   a. Stretch the O-ring to fit the  area.
   b. Avoid overstretching to prevent damage to the Teflon® encapsulation.
   c. Maximum stretch limit: 8% for silicone and 6% for Viton® FKM O-rings.

4. O-Ring Installation:
   a. Place the stretched Teflon® encapsulated o-ring into the groove or on the sealing surface.
   b. Make sure the encapsulated o-ring is properly installed without twists or pinches.

5. Cooling
   a. Allow the encapsulated o-ring to cool to room temperature.

6. Lubrication:
   a. Apply a light lubricant such as silicone or fluorinated grease to minimize wear.

7. Inspection:
   a. Examine the Teflon® encapsulated o-ring for any damage, such as cuts, gouges, dents, etc.

Note: Teflon® encapsulated o-rings require approximately 20% compression of cross section to ensure an effective seal.
Groove should be rectangular shaped and adhere to standard dimensions as outlined in the Parker O-ring Handbook
